"The last I want to see of that hideous flamingo is its battered hull sinking to the bottom of the sea!! The Donquixote pirates won't leave here alive!"

"Yes, Commander!" The crew chorused, immediately scrambling to their assigned battle stations. The Donquixote pirates were cornered, and __[Y/N]__ could practically taste the victory that would come with putting an end to the upstart pirates.

"And what about the children, Commander ____?"____ turned their eyes to the Lieutenant standing patiently at their side.

"Apprehend them if you can, but do not pity them. We have no idea what Doflamingo has trained them to do." They answered. As wrong as it felt to condemn children, the marines couldn't afford to underestimate them. They worked for a dangerous man, and had proven themselves to be formidable criminals, children or not.

The sound of gunshots and cannon fire ripped through the air on the coast, setting a rumbling bass rhythm to the sound of clashing weapons and battle cries. __[Y/N]__'s sword clashed with a long tendril made out of Diamante's blade. With no small amount of effort, __[Y/N]__ trust the enemy's weapon away, only for Diamante to harden his sword and swing it down with such force that it rattled straight through __[Y/N]__'s blade and into their core. That was all the distraction needed for Diamante to gain the upper hand, and ripple out of his blade, he whipped it across __[Y/N]__'s face.

Pain ripped through the entire right half of __[Y/N]__'s face, and already it felt like the eye on that side was swelling shut. It sounded like someone had set off an alarm bell in their ear, and __[Y/N]__ could only lay on the ground where they had come crashing down, trying to fight off wave of vertigo that blurred their vision and made the world feel like it was going to crumble away beneath their body.

Diamante had turned his attention away from the fallen marine as soon as they had hit the ground. Another attacker was closing in though, and __[Y/N]__ knew that they needed to get up. Drawing themselves to their knees, __[Y/N]__ used their sword as a cane, dragging themself up out of the dirt. There wasn't a part on the commander's body that didn't hurt, they had said the Donquixote pirates wouldn't leave here alive. Not the other way around.

"Alright, let's make this quick," __[Y/N]__ practically groaned, pointing the sharp tip of their blade at the pirate that stood before them. __[Y/N]__'s heart stuttered to a stop in their chest as the got an eyeful of the opponent staring them down. Beneath the face paint, they had the same bone structure, those same light eyes, a blonde mess of hair... And to add insult to injury, there was a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his lips. __[Y/N]__ had told Rosi at least a hundred times smoking would do nothing but turn his lungs black and make his lips taste like ash.

"Rosi..." __[Y/N]__ breathed. Rosinante looked no less shocked to see __[Y/N]__ standing before him, blade raised at the ready. Of all the marines that could have been deployed to track his brother's crew down, did it have to be __[Y/N]__?

"You!" Rage suddenly consumed __[Y/N]__'s face, and they forgot how tired and in pain they were as they swung their sword at the blonde's torso. Stepping to the side, Rosinante just barely dodged the strike.

"First you leave without telling me, and now I find out you're a fucking pirate?!" Rosinante tried to raise his hands in a defensive motion, silently urging __[Y/N]__ to stop, but __[Y/N]__ continued to swing at him in a blind rage. It was all Rosinante could do to keep dodging. His heart was racing from both the adrenaline from the fight, and out of fear if __[Y/N]__ kept screaming at him, they would blurt out something about his business with the marines.

"Explain yourself!! Why would you leave me?!" He wanted to explain. He really did. But he couldn't say a word, not so long as his brother's crew was anywhere within earshot. Clumsy as always, Rosinante's ankle got tangled around a tree limb, or a rock, or god only knew what, and he came crashing to the ground. __[Y/N]__'s sword glinted almost as menacingly as their [E/C] eyes as they glared down at Rosinante, their blade leveled right with Rosinante's jugular.

"So what do you have to say for yourself?! Fucking answer me—"

A gunshot cut through the thick air, and Rosinante watched as __[Y/N]__ hit the ground with a pathetic thud.

"Quite a mouth on that one." Doflamingo drawled, his handgun still smoking from the tip. Everything in the world came to a screeching halt for Rosinante in that moment. The gleam of the pistol in the sunlight, the dark blood that pooled around
__[Y/N]__'s body, the way his brother's lips curled into the most infuriating of smirks. It was like he was watching a scene from a movie, and any moment the ending credits would start to roll and he would return to life as it normally was.

"Bad one night stand?" Doflamingo threw a glance at his brother, completely oblivious to the meltdown that was taking place inside of his younger sibling. "I didn't know you had it in you, little brother."

Rosinante stayed in the same spot for what felt like a lifetime, although that couldn't have been right. Eventually the gunshots died out, and even as Doflamingo urged him to run back to the ship, Rosinante couldn't bring himself the leave right yet. He waited until the pirates and remaining marines had disappeared into the brush before he staggered over, collapsing by __[Y/N]__ on the ground. Their body still felt warm in his arms, and without the prying eyes of the crew Rosinante shamelessly sobbed into the crook of __[Y/N]__'s neck.

No matter how much time passes, we'll always be friends. The words echoed in Rosinante's mind for days there after. Well, Rosi didn't know just when or if he would be seeing __[Y/N]__ again. He could only hope  however much time passed, it was long enough that they would have forgiven him by then.
